white day and valentines day in japan are not what we have here.
Valentines day is the day that WOMEN give MEN gifts---not ladies getting candy!
White day is the day that MEN give WOMEN gifts---usually something white attached (and then the candy/flowers etc).

not what you'd think, but then again, the japanese are a strange bunch, for sure!

didnt get anything for v-day....not that I expected to either.

(and yes its a hallmark commercial holiday to the n-th degree).

They do give men gifts, but it's not really something to discuss in public.

usually the guys who get the gifts are then obligated to get a gift for the girl who gave them one...so the girls will give a gift to the guy that they want to get a gift from....watched it happen, not a pretty sight really. (was there for 2 years of that.....though I never got anything or gave anything...none of my kids had those ideas about a foreigner).
Japan is just a strange bunch no matter what way you look at them. Glad to be back home!

My favorite Geiko commercial was the one with the squirrel that caused an accident. The "new" one are so boring now...

It's good to have a hurricane (that doesn't do any damage) before exam week, that way our teacher couldn't give us any thing to do during our vacations ^^.

typhoons didnt seem to slow the japanese schools down---had a bunch while I was there...2 in the same month, during the first they decided to send the kids home at lunch---right in the MIDDLE of the worst part of it (it wasnt even raining when I went to school that morning and by the time I went home ~5pm it was sunny again)....so the next time they sent the kids home almost as soon as they got to school----too bad as a teacher I had to stick around the whole day amusing myself.
